This is deeply personal. Most of us have a loved one who manages a mental illness. Regardless of race, or gender people in the throes of a mental health crisis are 16x more likely to have a negative, potentially fatal encounter with the police.
The Crisis Accountability Project is a transformative initiative dedicated to fostering awareness and driving change regarding the alarming statistics concerning interactions between police officers and individuals in need of mental health support in the United States of America. Our mission is to shed light on this critical issue and advocate for reform, aiming to ensure the safety, well-being, and fair treatment of all citizens, particularly those struggling with mental health challenges.
We firmly believe that addressing the crisis at the intersection of law enforcement and mental health is essential for creating a more just and compassionate society. Our project seeks to bridge the gap between police officers and the mentally ill, encouraging understanding, empathy, and appropriate responses in crisis situations.
We are citizens who believe that a small group can make a difference. That we owe it to our fellow man and American citizens to speak for them when they cannot speak for themselves.
